happy dreary rainy day to you! (v-day)

*wonders absently* come on now people, there's a 'post comment' section for a reason and i know there's a bunch more of y'all reading this thing now that i moved it. LOL i supposed that is hypocritical because i don't generally post comments. Well, i have been lately..

i disgress. i really meant to lament and whine and complain in a similar fashion as halfelven about valentine's day. My going theory, as of a year ago, was that besides the holiday being for the companies to make money, i thorughly believe it's for the couple to make the single people feel even worse.

i'm not alone this valentine's day, but i feel sorry for him, because i don't like the holiday--

* i hate flowers. they just wither here and thither, and then they die. how romantic is that?!
* i'm not a fan of chocolate. chocolate is nice, but i don't want it 24/7 and the generic hershey kisses with caramel in them are fine enough for me.
* i'm not even going to touch down on the subject of diamonds other than to say i hate them and they are worthless (because they depreciate over time).

annoyingly enough, people around me refuse to believe that i hate valentine's day. i get all sorts of comments, stretching from 'oh, that way if you don't get it [what you want], you won't be disappointed' to 'that's selfish of you. what if he wants to give you somehting and you tell him he can't because YOU don't like the holiday?'

here's what i have to say to that; why should he-- or anybody for that matter-- make it a point to show their love and affection only ONE DAY out of the eyar, and out of OBLIGATION no less? How is anybody supposed to feel special with this pretense hanging above their heads?

plus, if all of this isn't bad enough, i get heat from gal's around me, "how can you be so picky? what is he supposed to get you?" PICKY?? i should be the most sought after gal in the world... i'm so low maintenence it's apparently 'selfish'

i guess that's enough on that subject... i have a whole bunch of homework i was supposed to do over the weekend. better hop to it before i go to work at three.

You can't deny you like to give, and Valentine's Day is such an excuse, however I agree that there feels like an obligation to give something in boyfriend/ girlfriend type relationships. It is often forgotten there are 3 types of love... you can have any of them to give to another on a day celebrating "love". As another note: the origins of Valentine's Day were not some "Hallmark" commercial money maker, but go back to third century Rome and Saint Valentine for whom it was named.
